Techno India University and WEBEL Successfully Conclude Faculty Development Program on Artificial Intelligence

Techno India University, in association with WEBEL (West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited), has successfully completed a month-long Faculty Development Program (FDP) on the Foundations of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This enriching program was designed to provide faculty members with essential knowledge and practical tools in the rapidly growing field of AI.

The program concluded with an inspiring Closing Ceremony, celebrating the dedication of the faculty members who immersed themselves in the cutting-edge world of Artificial Intelligence over the past month. Held in the university’s state-of-the-art auditorium, the event was attended by distinguished academicians, industry experts, university leadership, government representatives, and of course, the FDP participants themselves.

The event underscored the collaborative spirit between academia and industry and the importance of continuous learning in a fast-evolving technological landscape.

Led by a team of expert faculty members from Techno India University, alongside guest speakers from the AI industry, the FDP provided a comprehensive learning experience in Artificial Intelligence — spanning the theoretical underpinnings to practical, hands-on applications.

Over four weeks, participants were introduced to a broad spectrum of AI topics including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and ethical AI practices. In addition to lectures and workshops, the program included interactive sessions, case studies, group projects, and live coding demonstrations — all designed to help educators translate AI concepts into classroom-ready material.

Dr. S. Bhattacharya, one of the lead faculty members of the program, remarked during the closing ceremony: “Artificial Intelligence is no longer just a buzzword; it’s an integral part of our digital ecosystem. The goal of this FDP was to demystify AI for educators, enabling them to not only understand these technologies but to inspire their students with this knowledge. We believe that the next wave of AI innovation will be fueled by academic institutions like ours.”

The program attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty members across a variety of disciplines — not just computer science, but also electronics, management, and even humanities — a testament to how AI is touching every field of study.

According to Ms. Rituparna Mukherjee, a participant and Assistant Professor at Techno Main Salt Lake: “The FDP was a transformative experience. The sessions were interactive and practical, helping us understand how AI can be integrated into our teaching and research. I now feel much more confident incorporating AI discussions into my classes and even mentoring student projects in this area.”

This cross-disciplinary participation also fostered new collaborations and academic networks within the university and beyond. Participants highlighted how the program encouraged them to explore joint research, AI-powered teaching tools, and even the development of new AI-focused courses to offer their students.

A key partner in this initiative, WEBEL brought invaluable industry perspective and resources to the program. Known for its mission of driving digital growth in West Bengal, WEBEL’s involvement ensured that the FDP was aligned with the current and future needs of the tech industry.

Mr. Anirban Ghosh, Senior Manager at WEBEL and keynote speaker at the closing ceremony, shared his thoughts: “AI is reshaping industries from healthcare to finance, and education plays a crucial role in preparing the workforce of tomorrow. Programs like this FDP help create a pipeline of knowledgeable, AI-literate educators who can, in turn, inspire and prepare students to thrive in this AI-driven world. We’re proud to support this initiative and look forward to deeper collaborations with academic partners like Techno India University.”

As the ceremony drew to a close, the atmosphere was one of celebration but also of resolve. The leadership of Techno India University reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation, supporting faculty development, and building strong bridges between academia and industry.
