Lumière 2024, one of the biggest inter-college student film festivals, took place on 21st November 2024 at Ambuja Eco Centre, Salt Lake, Kolkata. Organized by the Department of Media Science, Techno Main Salt Lake, the event was graced by Chief Guest Prof. Manoshi RoyChowdhury, Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group and Prof. (Dr), Dipankar Bhattacharyay, Principal of Techno Main Salt Lake. The festival witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 30 film submissions from leading institutions such as SRFTI, Jadavpur University, St. Xavier’s College, Loreto College , Brainware University, and more, including the host, Techno India.
A thrilling display of imagination, narrative, and cinematic mastery by aspiring filmmakers was enjoyed by the packed audience, laying the groundwork for a bright future in film.
Renowned filmmaker Mr. Ranjan Ghosh and National Award-winning media educator Prof. Moumita Roy, a graduate of Techno India’s Media Science department, evaluated the fierce competition. Though it was a difficult choice, the film Cells from Brainware University won, and while Techno Main Salt Lake’s Bhokatta secured the runner-up trophy. Every competitor felt like a winner since the competition was so close.
A special mention award was given to Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women for their inspiring zero-budget film, proving that creativity reigns over grandeur. Techno India celebrated this spirit, continuing its tradition of encouraging and nurturing raw talent.
The teaser for the next movie Torsha Ekti Nodir Naam was revealed during the occasion, which increased the enthusiasm. Students from Techno India School contributed significantly to this project, demonstrating their extraordinary creative abilities.
The hard effort and passion of the Department of Media Science, including students, staff, judges, participants, and guests of honour, was evident in Lumière 2024’s success. Everyone is excitedly awaiting the next edition of the festival, which was a magnificent celebration of the craft of filmmaking.
