TIU Organizes Intensive Physiotherapy Workshop Focused on Advanced Manual Therapy

March 19th to 23rd, 2025 A five-day hands-on training workshop on advanced physiotherapy techniques was successfully conducted at Techno India University, Kolkata. This workshop was led by renowned physiotherapy expert Dr Parijat Kumar, co-founder of the ISOMT Foundation, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP – West Bengal Branch).

The workshop was designed to equip physiotherapy students with advanced knowledge and skills in manual therapy. It followed a structured and practical approach, giving participants real-time exposure to modern physiotherapy techniques that are recognised internationally.

The main focus areas of the workshop included:

  • Full Body Holistic Approach – A method that looks at the body as a whole unit rather than treating parts separately.
  • Muscle Energy Technique (MET) & Neurodynamic – Techniques that help in improving muscle function and nerve mobility.
  • Advanced Manipulation & Mobilization for Spine & Extremities – Specialized methods used for treating joint and spinal conditions through movement-based therapy.

These techniques were not only taught in theory but were also demonstrated live, allowing students to gain confidence in applying them on their own under expert supervision.

Dr Parijat Kumar brought in years of global experience to the workshop. He is a certified spinal manipulative therapist, certified dry needling practitioner, and a respected figure in the field of manual therapy. His training programmes are inspired by internationally recognised methods used in the United States and other advanced healthcare systems. His friendly approach and interactive teaching style made learning enjoyable for all attendees.

The students of Techno India University’s School of Health Science, especially those from the Physiotherapy Department, participated enthusiastically in the workshop. Their dedication and eagerness to learn new techniques were truly commendable. Many students took notes, practised on peers, and asked insightful questions, showing their commitment to becoming skilled healthcare professionals.

The sessions were intensive but highly engaging, with a mix of theoretical background, live demonstrations, peer-to-peer practice, and feedback from the trainer. The interactive format helped students gain a deeper understanding of how physiotherapy can be used effectively to treat a wide range of physical ailments.

The success of the workshop would not have been possible without the continuous support and encouragement of university leadership. Dr Amartya Sinha, Assistant Director of the School of Health Science, and Dr Kusum Agarwal, In-charge of the Physiotherapy Department, played vital roles in coordinating and organising the event. Their dedication to providing quality learning experiences for students reflects Techno India University’s commitment to academic excellence and professional skill development.

This workshop proved to be a significant step in strengthening the practical knowledge of physiotherapy students. It also reinforced the importance of continuous learning and hands-on experience in medical education. By participating in this training, students are now better equipped to handle real-world challenges in clinical and hospital settings.

Techno India University continues to take progressive steps in bridging academic learning with industry-relevant skills, and this workshop stands as a glowing example of such an effort. The energy, focus, and passion displayed during the five-day event have laid a strong foundation for future training programmes and collaborations.
