Drones Take Centre Stage: Techno India University Hosts Seminar on Smart Civil Engineering

At Techno India University, innovation isn’t just taught—it’s experienced. Continuing this mission, the university recently hosted a dynamic seminar on “Drones and the Emerging Ecosystem in India – The Role of Civil Engineers.”

The seminar focused on how drone technology is bringing big changes in the field of civil engineering, especially in areas like urban planning, infrastructure monitoring, disaster management, and sustainable development. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Manoshi Roychowdhury, Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group, whose constant support and vision continue to inspire students and faculty alike.

The event also welcomed Mr. S. Gabriel Vasanthakumaran, Assistant General Manager at Lawrence & Mayo, as the Chief Guest, along with Mr. Samir Biswas, a Senior Drone Pilot and DJI Expert. Faculty members from the Civil Engineering Department shared their valuable knowledge and experiences, making the session deeply informative and engaging.

The speakers gave deep insights into how drones—when combined with technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and automation—can make a huge difference in building smarter cities and a better future.

Apart from civil engineering, the seminar also explored how drones are helping in the agricultural sector by supporting precision farming, crop health monitoring, and resource management. These improvements are making agriculture more efficient and sustainable.

One of the most exciting moments of the seminar was the live drone demonstration. Students and faculty witnessed how drones are used for aerial surveying, 3D mapping, smart urban planning, and even eco-friendly construction. It was a great learning experience for everyone present.

This seminar clearly showed Techno India University’s strong commitment to innovation, research, and collaboration with industry. By embracing cutting-edge technologies like drones, the university is preparing students to be part of a smarter, safer, and more sustainable world.
