On the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale – the woman who turned the darkened corridors of history into sanctuaries of light – the Nursing Department of Techno India University came together for one of its most sacred traditions: the Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony. What unfolded was not merely a ritual. It was a moment of transformation.
A Flame That Speaks Without Words
As each lamp was lit, the room filled with something more than light. It filled with purpose. Every flicker was a silent promise to humanity itself – a vow to stand beside pain without fear, to serve with compassion when the world feels helpless, and to heal not only through medicine, but through kindness, patience, and an unwavering sense of humanity.
In a world that often rushes past suffering, these young men and women chose to stop. To stay. To care.
The Woman Behind the Legend
Born on May 12, 1820, in Florence, Italy, Florence Nightingale defied every expectation Victorian society placed upon women of her class. When nursing was considered undignified, she chose it anyway — driven by calling, not convention. During the Crimean War, she transformed filth-ridden military hospitals, reduced mortality rates from over 40% to just 2%, and walked the wards nightly with her lamp, earning the name “The Lady with the Lamp.” A nurse, statistician, and reformer, she founded modern nursing education and proved that compassionate care saves lives. She passed away in 1910 – but her lamp has never stopped burning.

The True Meaning of Healing
Medicine can treat a wound. But nursing heals the person behind it.
Sometimes, healing comes through a voice – calm and reassuring in the middle of the night. Sometimes it is a touch, gentle and grounding. Sometimes it is a prayer whispered in a quiet corner. And sometimes, it is simply the presence of someone who cares deeply enough to remain.
The students of Techno India University’s Nursing Department understand this. They did not just witness a ceremony today – they stepped into a legacy.
An Oath Felt, Not Just Spoken
The oath taken at this ceremony was not merely recited aloud. It was felt – in the chest, in the hands, in the quiet resolve of every face illuminated by the glow of a lamp.
These were not just words echoing in a hall. They were commitments etched into character – a lifelong pledge to place the welfare of others above all else, and to carry the spirit of Florence Nightingale into every ward, every bedside, and every moment of human vulnerability they would ever encounter.
A Gathering of Purpose
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Manoshi RoyChowdhury, Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group, alongside the dedicated faculty of the Nursing Department, whose guidance and mentorship shape these students every single day. Her attendance was a powerful testament to the Group’s commitment to nurturing not just skilled professionals, but compassionate human beings — a reminder that the journey these students were beginning was seen, valued, and celebrated at the highest level.

Proud of the Future We Are Shaping
Techno India University has always believed that education is not just about building careers – it is about building character. The Nursing Department embodies this belief every single day.
To bring light where there is darkness. To bring comfort where there is fear. To bring humanity where it is needed the most. These are not just ideals. They are the daily practice of every nurse we send into the world.
Proud of our Nursing Department. Proud of the future healers we are shaping for society.
