Visual Symphony with Stéphane Lamalle: École Intuit Lab’s Art Direction Workshop Brings Music to Life

For five days in March 2025, creativity took centre stage at École Intuit Lab, part of Techno India University, transforming the campus into a dynamic playground for innovation. From March 24th to 28th, aspiring designers dived into an immersive international workshop on Art Direction & Motion Design, led by the visionary Stéphane Lamalle—a celebrated art director, photographer, and visual craftsman. This event wasn’t just about learning techniques; it was about pushing boundaries, redefining perspectives, and elevating artistic expression under expert mentorship.

Stéphane Lamalle, founder of studio 3.quatorze, brought his years of expertise to the workshop, mentoring students on the intricacies of creative direction, production workflows, and visual experimentation. With a diverse portfolio that spans across France, New York, Zurich, Japan, and beyond, Lamalle’s artistic vision and storytelling approach left an indelible impact on the participants.

This week was intense, filled with a mix of emotions. At the beginning, there were moments of doubt, but gradually, things started falling into place. Overall, it has been a great experience for me. I believe the campus team is amazing, with talented teachers who guide students well. The students simply need to stay curious, learn, and pursue whatever path they choose. In today’s graphic design industry, versatility is key. Designers must be generalists, mastering not just artistic direction but also emotional design to truly excel” said Lamalle.

With 42 students from various backgrounds, including Digital Product Design (DPD), Visual Communication (VC), and Game Art & Design (GAD), the workshop was designed as an intensive, studio-style program. Students were given an exciting challenge—to conceptualize and create elements for a 3-minute 14-second video inspired by the lyrics of the song ‘Run It Up’ by Hanumankind.

Throughout the week, participants were split into teams, each responsible for different aspects of the project. They dissected the song’s lyrics, extracting emotions, themes, and energy to translate into motion graphics, print design, 3D animation, and digital media. The goal was not just to create visuals but to craft an experience that resonated with the rhythm, intensity, and essence of the song. Each team interpreted a segment uniquely, ensuring that when pieced together, the video would flow as one seamless artistic masterpiece.

The culmination of their efforts came on the final day, when their individual pieces were seamlessly stitched together—like a puzzle coming to life—to form a stunning, cohesive visual narrative. The result was a breath taking fusion of creativity and music, where every frame pulsed with the song’s energy and the students’ artistic ingenuity.

The workshop was not just about mastering technical skills; it was an exploration of creativity, storytelling, and teamwork. By blending artistic intuition with structured design principles, students learned to push the boundaries of their craft. The hands-on guidance from Stéphane Lamalle encouraged them to experiment fearlessly, communicate visually, and craft images with purpose.

As the final video played on screen, it was clear that the workshop had been an unforgettable experience—a true fusion of passion, learning, and innovation. Each frame reflected the hard work and ingenuity of the students, and the impact of this international collaboration was evident in their newfound confidence and artistic growth.

With events like these, École Intuit Lab Kolkata continues to pave the way for aspiring designers to thrive in a global creative landscape. This workshop wasn’t just about learning software or techniques; it was about crafting stories, shaping perspectives, and breathing life into art.

As the students left the workshop, they didn’t just take back technical skills—they carried with them a new way of seeing, imagining, and creating. And that, perhaps, was the most valuable lesson of all.
