TIU Observes World Organ Donation Day: Spreading Awareness, Inspiring Compassion

The School of Allied Health Science at Techno India University, West Bengal, observed World Organ Donation Day on 13th August 2025 with a heartfelt initiative aimed at inspiring awareness and empathy among the next generation of healthcare professionals. Organized by the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology in collaboration with Rotary North Calcutta, the event stood as a reminder that one selfless act can give another person the gift of life.

The program began with an inaugural session graced by Prof. (Dr.) Rina Paladhi, Director (Academics), whose words of encouragement set a thoughtful tone for the day. Prof. (Dr.) Beduin Mahanti, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Prof. (Dr.) Shampa Mallick, Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the moral and medical importance of organ donation. Ms. Bhaswati Das, Principal of the College and School of Nursing, highlighted the vital role nurses play in creating awareness and compassion in healthcare.

The event featured insightful talks by Dr. Kaushik Singha, Assistant Professor (Clinical Anatomist) at JNM Medical College & Hospital and RMO at AIIMS Kalyani, and Mr. Sarat Kr. Sarkar, former Chief Engineer, PWD (Electrical Division) and Medico-Legal Advisor to the Government of West Bengal. Their engaging sessions shed light on the ethical, scientific, and humanitarian aspects of organ donation, leaving the audience inspired and informed.

Around 200 participants, including faculty and students from Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Nursing, attended the program. The poster presentations by students were a highlight of the day — creative expressions that reflected their understanding of the life-saving impact of organ donation. These posters not only showcased scientific knowledge but also conveyed emotional depth and social responsibility.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Shampa Mallick, followed by a certificate distribution ceremony that celebrated participation and learning.

In essence, the observance of World Organ Donation Day at Techno India University went beyond being an academic event — it was a collective step toward building a more compassionate society. As Prof. (Dr.) Beduin Mahanti aptly put it, “Awareness begins in classrooms, but its true purpose is fulfilled when it changes lives.”

With such initiatives, Techno India University continues to reaffirm its commitment to fostering both scientific understanding and humanitarian values—reminding us that education, at its best, nurtures both the mind and the heart.
