Shamiur Rahaman Mondal, a talented second-year BFA (Digital Film Making & VFX) student from Techno India University (TIU), West Bengal, has achieved remarkable success on the international stage, securing second place at the prestigious World Audio-Visual and Entertainment (WAVE) Challenge held during the recent Waves Summit Mumbai 2025. This significant achievement reinforces TIU’s commitment to fostering creative excellence and providing a platform for its students to excel globally.
Reflecting on his experience, Shamiur shared, “My experience at Waves Summit Mumbai was absolutely amazing, almost unreal. Participating in the challenge taught me so much. It was not only a great learning experience but also a real joy to work on. Being surrounded by so many talented individuals really pushed me to give my best.”
The inspiration for his award-winning project stemmed from a relatable personal experience, showcasing his ability to translate everyday life into compelling creative content. “Honestly, the inspiration for my project came from real life. I used to play a lot of video games, and like many gamers, I’d often get scolded by my parents for it. I took that personal experience and exaggerated it for cinematic effect. The opening six seconds of the in-game cinematic were heavily inspired by Call of Duty and Modern Warfare. My process was pretty straightforward: I started by gathering references, created a blockout of the scene, then moved on to set dressing, followed by lighting, and finally rendered the sequence.”

Looking to inspire others, Shamiur offered valuable advice to his fellow students. “To other students thinking about entering competitions like this: don’t overthink it, just go for it. Give it everything you’ve got. You’ll learn so much in the process, and it’s totally worth the experience.”
