Techno India University didn’t just attend Anime India Kolkata 2026 — as an official University Partner, we arrived with full main-character energy and transformed the convention into a celebration of creativity, fandom, and innovation. Held on February 14–15 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, the event saw Techno students dive into anime, cosplay, Japanese gaming, music, and live performances beyond the classroom. With our partnership powering the spirit of the Kolkata Edition, Techno India University stood at the forefront of the hype… blending technology, culture, and youth energy to create moments that were bold, dynamic, and unapologetically iconic.
The second you walked through the gates, it stopped feeling like a convention and started feeling like you’d glitched straight into an anime universe. The vibe? Electric. The outfits? Next-level. The energy? Off the charts and completely contagious… in the best possible way. Everywhere you turned, there were cosplayers serving looks, creators networking like pros, and fandoms bonding like long-lost besties. It wasn’t just an event on the calendar… it was the place to be. Kolkata showed up and showed out, proving once again that its creative scene is not just alive, it’s evolving at full throttle.

Anime India transformed the city into a high-energy celebration of fandom, creativity, and community. From dramatic cosplay walks and immersive stage performances to interactive games and artist-led sessions, the event felt less like a convention and more like stepping into a live anime multiverse. Fans poured in with electrifying enthusiasm, turning every corner of the venue into a vibrant creative zone. With thousands attending across two days, the scale of participation made one thing clear: Kolkata’s anime culture isn’t niche anymore… it’s mainstream, expressive, and louder than ever.
Meghdut RoyChowdhury, Chief Innovation Officer of Techno India Group, perfectly captured that electric moment as the Kolkata edition came to a close. “Wow, what incredible energy today at the Biswa Bangla Mela ground. And this was the last day of Anime India Kolkata edition,” he shared, still riding the adrenaline. Reflecting on conversations with the organizers, he added, “They said Kolkata had the most unexpected response. What a day!” And honestly? Facts. With nearly 25,000 people filling the auditorium for the final sessions, this wasn’t just impressive, it was historic-core.
Zooming out to the bigger picture, he highlighted why continuous efforts in arts, culture, creativity, design, education, and industry matter so much for a city like Kolkata. “At the end of the day, this city has a treasure trove of potential and a treasure trove of talent,” he said. And that line? It hits. Because events like this aren’t random hype, they’re reminders that the city’s creative ecosystem is stacked. He emphasized that it’s on all of us, institutions, creators, organizers to bring more spaces like this to life. The goal? Make Kolkata not just relevant, but the ultimate event destination.
One of the biggest flex moments of the weekend was the special message and sessions by Susumu Mitsunaka, the director of Haikyuu!!, whose presence instantly sent fans into full fangirl/fanboy mode. From an exclusive workshop to packed Meet & Greet sessions and a deeply insightful career retrospective, his interactions gave aspiring animators a rare behind-the-scenes look into the craft of storytelling and sports anime direction. Adding to the star power was the presence of Hideo Katsumata, making the experience even more iconic for attendees. For fans and creators alike, it wasn’t just about seeing industry legends—it was about learning from them, connecting with them, and feeling one step closer to the global anime industry dream.

The creative glow-up didn’t stop at the convention floor. TIU proudly celebrated its nominees and award recipients at the AVGC – XR 40 Under 40 Awards, spotlighting excellence in animation, VFX, gaming, and extended reality. Among the standout achievers were Tuhin Saha, Creative Head – VFX at Blooper House Studio; Srijandeep Das, Gaming Faculty at Ecole Intuit Lab Kolkata; Arka Chakraborty, Animation Faculty at Ecole Intuit Lab Kolkata; and Pranoy Chatterjee, Gaming Faculty at Ecole Intuit Lab Kolkata. Their recognition isn’t just a flex… it’s proof that TIU doesn’t just attend creative spaces; it actively builds the creators shaping the future of animation, gaming, and immersive media.
And let’s talk knowledge drops. The session “Intro to Cosplay: Craft, Style, and Slay!” made it clear that cosplay isn’t just about dressing up… it’s design thinking, craftsmanship, styling, performance, and confidence rolled into one powerful art form. One of the most impactful highlights was the Industry Panel Discussion on “Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industry,” featuring leading voices such as Harsho Mohan Chattoraj (Graphic Novelist & Illustrator), Victor Bhattacharya (Managing Director, Ebluesoft Infotech Solutions), Niloy Kanti Biswas (CEO, Wackytoon Studio), Subhra Chakraborty (Founder & Director, Animatzione Animation Studio), and Durga Prasad Dalai (Founder, Director & Creative Head, Ele Animation), moderated by Skannd Tyagi, President of the Global Chamber of Innovation & Industry (GCII). The panel broke down how passion transforms into profession, unpacking real-world insights on animation pipelines, gaming ecosystems, startup journeys, intellectual property, and the business side of creativity. The message was loud and clear: creative careers aren’t backup plans… they’re scalable, sustainable, and part of a rapidly growing, future-forward creative economy.
From the moment the gates opened, the venue turned into a treasure hunt of crazy finds… high-detail anime figures, quirky robots, limited-edition collectibles, manga, posters, and merch that had fans instantly pulling out their wallets. Every aisle was buzzing with people comparing hauls and flexing purchases. Amid all that hype, Stall C3 by Ecole Intuit Lab stood out with its own anime-core aesthetic, featuring collectible stamp stations, stylish keychains, and creatively designed stationery. It wasn’t just a merch stop… it became a mini creativity hub where reels were filmed, fits were clicked, and fandom seamlessly blended with future career inspiration.

The cosplay performances inspired by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba? Absolute cinema. It genuinely felt like characters had stepped straight out of the screen and into real life. The crowd was hyped, every entry got its main-character moment, and the energy never dipped. One visitor shared that it felt like entering a parallel universe where everyone instantly understood each other… no explanations needed. A student from Techno India echoed that sentiment, saying the experience was deeply inspiring. Watching creativity unfold through costumes, performances, and interactive spaces made them realize how powerful passion-driven communities truly are. For them, it wasn’t just attending an event… it was unlocking the motivation to create something of their own.
As the crowd slowly dispersed and the post-event vibrant lingered in the air, it was obvious that something bigger had just happened. This wasn’t just a two-day celebration of anime… it was proof of how powerful community, creativity, and collaboration can be when they collide. Kolkata didn’t just host Anime India; it embraced it, amplified it, and made it its own. With passionate fans, emerging creators, and institutions backing innovation at every step, the city is building a creative culture that refuses to stay in the background. And if this edition showed us anything, it’s that the momentum is real… and it’s only getting stronger from here.
