“Heritage is not what we inherit from our ancestors, but what we pass on to future generations.” These timeless words formed the spirit of the Heritage Awareness Programme hosted by Techno India Group Public School – Garia, in collaboration with Contact Base, to help young learners appreciate the legacy that shapes their identity, culture and everyday lives.
Odisha’s heritage is a vibrant blend of architecture, art, festivals, language and enduring customs. The programme aimed to introduce students to this vivid cultural tapestry and inspire in them a sense of responsibility to preserve and celebrate such traditions.
The session began with a documentary film that transported students to Koraput, a breathtakingly beautiful town in Odisha known for its deep-rooted cultural traditions. The film showcased the region’s diverse art forms and the way the tribes of Koraput continue to safeguard their ancestral practices through handicrafts, songs, and dance.
Following the screening, an interactive discussion helped students understand important concepts such as tangible and intangible heritage, and why both are essential to safeguarding India’s cultural identity. The young audience engaged enthusiastically, discovering how traditions influence daily life and how communities thrive by passing them forward.

One of the most memorable moments of the programme was an enthralling dance performance by rural artists from Koraput. Their graceful movements, traditional attire and soulful expressions beautifully captured the essence of Odisha’s cultural spirit. The performance left students mesmerised and deeply appreciative of the living traditions upheld by these communities.
Principal Ms. Tania Sen felicitated the artists, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their contribution. She applauded their dedication to preserving heritage and thanked them for enriching the students’ learning experience.
The Heritage Awareness Programme was more than an event—it was an immersive learning experience that encouraged students to recognise the beauty of India’s diversity. It instilled the values of unity, respect, and cultural pride, reminding students that heritage thrives when communities, young and old, come together to honour it.
Through initiatives like this, TIGPS-Garia continues to nurture well-rounded learners who not only excel academically but also grow into empathetic individuals with a strong sense of identity and responsibility towards society.
