India’s AI Revolution Begins in the East: TIU Leads as First Organizer Under the India AI Mission

On 28 November, Techno India University, West Bengal, made history by becoming the first organizer in the Eastern Region to host an AI Impact Summit under the India AI Mission, marking the beginning of India’s AI revolution from the East. The campus transformed into a pivotal hub for national-level dialogue on artificial intelligence, bringing together leaders from industry, government, and academia to collectively explore how India can build an AI-ready human capital for the future.

The summit was driven by the theme “Building India’s AI-Ready Human Capital,” setting the stage for an atmosphere filled with collaboration, purpose, and forward-thinking discussions. Industry experts from TCS, PwC, Mindtree, and the Adani Group joined hands with renowned academicians from Jadavpur University, NIT Durgapur, Calcutta University, Presidency University, NUJS Kolkata, ISI Kolkata, and Techno India University. Their combined presence highlighted the necessity of a unified, multidisciplinary approach to AI research, innovation, and deployment across sectors.

A standout moment of the event was the presence of senior officials from critical government and security institutions. Commandant Shaleen Shivalih of the Indian Coast Guard, Sumit Kumar, IPS (AI Cell, West Bengal Police), and H. K. Kusumakar, IPS (ADG & IGP) enriched the discussions with valuable insights on how AI is transforming national security, public safety, and administrative systems. Their contributions brought a ground-level, real-world perspective that strengthened the depth and relevance of the conversations.

The Round Table Discussion emerged as one of the most impactful segments of the summit. Moderated by Mayank from IIM Calcutta and supported by Dr. Archika and Dr. Camelia, the session remained focused, analytical, and outcome-driven. It encouraged actionable recommendations that bridged the gap between academic expertise, industry expectations, and governmental needs.

One of the most significant outcomes of the summit is its long-term national significance. A comprehensive reportcompiling all insights, strategies, and recommendations from the discussions will be submitted to the Government of India to support policy formulation under the India AI Mission. This ensures that the ideas generated at Techno India University will contribute directly to India’s AI policy framework and roadmap.

The summit concluded on a note of optimism and pride, as participants acknowledged the importance of such collaborations in accelerating India’s AI ambitions. By hosting this influential event, Techno India University has reaffirmed its role as a forward-thinking institution committed to research, innovation, and national development. As India moves toward an AI-driven future, the university stands at the forefront, helping shape the conversations and strategies that will define the nation’s technological progress.
