On 15th August, there was a special kind of energy at Ramgarh Engineering College on Independence Day. As dawn broke, the campus looked stunning and also draped with the tricolour everywhere, flower beds in full bloom and banners that danced along with the wind. The excitement and pride felt almost infectious. Wherever you looked, students, faculty and staff were gathered in small groups, chatting, laughing and of course clicking pictures. It wasn’t just about celebrating the nation’s freedom, but also the spirit that holds everyone together.
The heart of the celebration was the flag hoisting. Principal Dr. Sharbani Roy walked to the podium and her face showing both dignity with warmth. When she unfurled the flag, it shot up into the sky, fluttering brightly against the morning sun. In that instant, as the National Anthem echoed, you could sense a wave of emotion pass through the crowd, which was a reminder of the immense sacrifices that made this day even possible.
Dr. Roy’s speech was not just words on a mic; it felt like a message passed from one generation to the next. She spoke about the bravery of freedom fighters, but also urged students to show courage in their own way, which is through honesty, creativity and passion for change. Her point was clear: independence is not to be celebrated only on August 15th, but lived every day, in small and big actions.

That same spirit carried through the other speeches too. Vice Principal Dr. Nazmul Islam greeted everyone with a broad smile, speaking about unity and shared progress. Academic In-Charge Dr. Ashish Narayan challenged students to look at independence not only as freedom, but as responsibility, it is to support each other and build a future worth being proud of.
Later, Media Coordinator Mr. Pallab Das spoke with his usual enthusiasm about the power of media. He reminded students that media is not just for entertainment, but can be used to spread knowledge and bring people closer, turning every tweet or post into something meaningful.
When the cultural program began, it felt like a proper festival. Students of REC put their hearts into every performance, from patriotic songs that brought tears in some eyes to colourful folk dances and skits that brought alive the struggle for freedom. The auditorium rang with applause and cheers, making everyone feel part of something larger than themselves.
Among the voices that stood out were students like Kajal Singh and Punita Kumari. Kajal spoke about the dreams she and her classmates hold to build a country that stays true to the vision of its freedom fighters. Punita’s words reminded everyone that while independence is our right, keeping it alive is our daily duty.
Even teachers became part of the celebration, not just as faculty, but as companions. Sugan Mundu, Kamal Ahmed, Chandan Raj and others mingled with students, sharing encouragement, jokes and also warm wishes. For a while, the line between teacher and student disappeared completely.
As the program slowly drew to a close, every single person didn’t rush to leave. Many lingered behind, exchanging hugs, promises and laughter. The air carried a sense of togetherness that is hard to put in words.
For Ramgarh Engineering College, the 79th Independence Day was more than just an event, it was an experience, a reminder of what binds us all and a promise that the future will be shaped by our own hands, one small act of patriotism at a time.
