TIGPS Garia Leads the Way with Thalassemia Screening Drive

In a significant step towards promoting preventive healthcare and student wellbeing, Techno India Group Public School, Garia organized its first-ever Thalassemia Screening Drive, reinforcing its commitment to holistic education and health awareness.

Conducted in collaboration with the Rotary Interact Club ‘Prayas’, the initiative was supported by the Rotary Club of Calcutta Majestic and a team of experienced doctors from Dr. B. C. Roy Hospital. The event began around 12 PM with an inspiring address by the respected Principal, who emphasized the importance of early detection and awareness about genetic disorders like thalassemia. Her words encouraged students to actively participate and understand the long-term impact of preventive healthcare.

Thalassemia screening is a crucial medical test that helps identify whether an individual is a carrier (thalassemia minor). Early detection plays a vital role in preventing the transmission of the disorder to future generations, making such awareness drives essential in today’s world.

Around 70 students participated enthusiastically in the screening drive, turning what could have been a moment of hesitation into one of awareness and responsibility. The presence of Rotary dignitaries – Mr. Shirshendu Niyogi, Ms. Kanta Sengupta, Ms. Simi Barua and Mr. Shekhar Sengupta – along with a dedicated medical team including Dr. Moumita Biswas, Dr. Madhumita Samanta, Dr. Souvik Chatterjee and Dr. Sher Mohammed Middye, ensured a supportive and comforting environment for all participants.

The medical professionals maintained strict safety and hygiene protocols throughout the process, ensuring a smooth and secure experience. Their compassionate approach helped students overcome their initial fears, especially regarding blood tests, making the initiative both educational and reassuring.

What made the event even more impactful was the participation of the school leadership and faculty. The Principal and several teachers stepped forward to undergo the screening themselves, setting an inspiring example and fostering a sense of collective responsibility within the school community.

This Thalassemia Screening Drive at TIGPS Garia not only addressed an important health concern but also sparked meaningful conversations around genetic awareness, prevention, and informed decision-making. It marked the beginning of a larger vision – one where education goes beyond textbooks to include real-life awareness and community responsibility.

As TIGPS Garia continues to nurture responsible and informed individuals, such initiatives highlight the institution’s dedication to building a healthier and more conscious society. The success of this drive has undoubtedly laid a strong foundation for future health awareness programmes, making it a proud milestone for the school and its students.
