Internationalization of Higher Education: Insights by Prof. Marco Abate at TIU

On 12th December 2025, Techno India University, West Bengal, through its forward-looking School of the Future, hosted an engaging academic session on “Benefits of Internationalization of Higher Education.” The discussion focused on how global collaboration in education is shaping more inclusive, relevant, and future-ready learning ecosystems.

The session was led by Prof. Marco Abate, Rector of UniMarconi University, Rome, who shared deep insights drawn from his extensive global academic experience. He emphasized that meaningful internationalization is not about comparing institutions or ranking systems, but about collaboration, inclusivity, and shared learning. According to him, when diverse educational systems and perspectives come together, they naturally lead to more balanced and effective outcomes—“putting them together, eventually you get something more reasonable.”

Highlighting real-world examples, Prof. Abate referred to long-standing international student exchange initiatives such as Erasmus, noting that their sustained success lies in the value they create for people, not just institutions. As he pointed out, “if you have got such a success, it means that it is useful to people,” reflecting how student mobility and cross-cultural exposure truly enrich academic and personal growth.

The discussion further reinforced that internationalization today goes beyond student exchanges. It plays a crucial role in strengthening research collaboration, enhancing curriculum relevance, and preparing students to thrive in multicultural professional environments. Universities, Prof. Abate noted, must act as global knowledge bridges—connecting ideas, cultures, and innovation across borders.

The session strongly aligned with Techno India University’s vision of building a globally connected academic ecosystem that empowers students with international exposure and future-ready skills. By fostering cooperative, people-centered global partnerships, the university continues to reaffirm its commitment to shaping graduates who are not only academically strong but also globally aware and socially responsible.

The event served as a powerful reminder that the future of higher education lies in collaboration over competition, and in building shared futures through collective global learning.
