In a vibrant convergence of innovation, technology, and academic brilliance, the Departments of Geospatial Science and Agriculture Science of Techno India University, West Bengal—along with IQAC—hosted a remarkable Industry Connect Seminar on Geospatial Technology & Smart Agriculture on 12 November 2025. Held at the elegant Conference Hall, the event transformed the campus into a hub of forward-thinking ideas and real-world insights that left students energized and inspired.
The seminar opened to a warm and ceremonial atmosphere. The dignitaries were welcomed with great respect, followed by the symbolic lighting of the lamp—a gesture that illuminated not only the room but also the collective academic spirit of the departments.
Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Dr. Atanu Kumar Raha, Emeritus Professor, TIU & Director, Techno India Group, set the tone for the day. “India is at the threshold of an agricultural revolution powered by geospatial intelligence. Our students are the torchbearers of this future,” he remarked, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
This sentiment was echoed by Prof. Manoshi Roychowdhury, Hon’ble Co-Chancellor, TIU and Co-Chairperson, Techno India Group, who delivered an inspiring inaugural speech. “At TIU, interdisciplinary learning is not just encouraged—it’s celebrated. When agriculture meets geospatial technology, the result is sustainable progress for generations,” she stated.
The presence of distinguished leaders such as Prof. Dr. Samiran Chattopadhyay, Prof. Dr. Rina Paladhi, Prof. Dr. Gautam Majumdar, Prof. Dr. Sujoy Biswas, Prof. Gautam Sengupta, and Prof. Bhaswati Mitra, Prof. Dr. Debasish Chakraborty (Department of Geospatial Science), along with Dr. Shreyashi Mitra, Associate Professor and Head of the Department (Geospatial Science), the chief organiser of the seminar, elevated the event’s significance. Their collective presence showcased TIU’s united vision for research-driven and interdisciplinary education.



PRITHVI: A New Chapter in Academic Storytelling
The proud launch of PRITHVI, the first-ever joint departmental newsletter, was a standout moment of the event. The anticipation and excitement in the hall were palpable as the digital unveiling took place.
Speaking about PRITHVI, Prof. Manoshi Roychowdhury shared, “This newsletter is an evolving archive of our students’ dreams, achievements, and scientific explorations. PRITHVI will stand as a testament to our departments’ growth.”
The newsletter shines a spotlight on student brilliance—from research papers to fieldwork—alongside faculty accomplishments and departmental breakthroughs. Its launch marks the beginning of a biannual tradition that aims to document and celebrate academic excellence with pride and passion.
Dr. Pijush Mallick, HoD of Agriculture Sciences, expressed heartfelt gratitude during the vote of thanks. “This initiative reflects our collective dedication to empowering students with knowledge that extends beyond textbooks,” he added.
He was joined by Dr. Madhurima Maiti, Assistant Professor, Department of Agriculture Sciences, and Mrs. Bidisha Sarkar, Department of Agriculture Sciences, whose contributions were integral to the success of the programme.
Technical Session: A Journey Through Real-World Innovation
The technical session added depth and dynamism to the seminar, delivering industry insights that resonated deeply with students and faculty alike. The sessions did not merely educate—they sparked curiosity and opened doors to futuristic career pathways.
Mr. Santanu Dutta, Associate Director, Deloitte India, His talk on geospatial AI captivated the audience as he outlined how advanced analytics influence everything—from urban planning to disaster forecasting.
“Sustainable development relies on intelligent systems. Geospatial AI is at the heart of that intelligence,” he emphasized.
Dr. Bhaskar Mitra Senior GIS Consultant, TCS, Taking the audience on a nostalgic yet futuristic journey, he drew comparisons between GIS in the 1990s and today. “What was once a laborious process is now instantly accessible—and infinitely more powerful,” he observed, inspiring students to embrace the rapidly advancing field.

His session brimmed with real-world applications as he showcased UAV systems, sensor data interpretation, and industrial geospatial tools. “The future belongs to those who can connect data with purpose,” he stated confidently.
