MRKT New Year Edition 2025: A Resounding Success for Calcutta’s Homegrown Brands

The CCU Festival and Make Calcutta Relevant Again initiative recently joined forces on the 18th and 19th January to present MRKT New Year Edition 2025, a vibrant flea market showcasing the best of Calcutta’s homegrown talent. This successful event was expertly curated by Aerica Sardar, whose vision and dedication were instrumental in its resounding success. Held at Offbeat CCU, the event brought together over 20 local brands, offering a diverse array of unique products and experiences.

From skincare and handcrafted leather goods to healthy snacks, artisanal chocolates, and unique clothing and jewelry, MRKT provided a platform for these businesses to connect directly with the community. Attendees could also explore tarot readings and even get their nails done, making for a truly immersive and engaging experience.

The two-day event was a resounding success, drawing enthusiastic crowds and fostering a lively atmosphere. The organizers curated a dynamic entertainment lineup that further enhanced the experience.

Day One kicked off with electrifying performances by Calcutta’s own Banglar Thek. The talented rappers such as Cizzy, Ron-E and more, delivered high-energy hip-hop sets and even performed songs from their upcoming album, that captivated the audience and set the tone for a weekend of celebration.

Day Two brought a different kind of energy, with comedians from the Retired Comedy Club taking the stage. Their witty jokes and amazing crowd work had people roaring with laughter. The entertainment continued with an interactive cajon circle hosted by Gappu Cajon. This engaging session invited audience participation, creating a shared musical experience that left a lasting impression.

MRKT New Year Edition 2025 proved to be a hit with customers, brand owners, and guests alike. The event not only provided a valuable platform for local businesses but also offered a fun and engaging experience for the community, reinforcing the mission of making Calcutta relevant again and highlighting the city’s vibrant creative scene.
