Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Techno Main Salt Lake, a centre for technical superiority, inventiveness, and experiential learning. With a curriculum that spans fundamental subjects including materials science, thermodynamics, robotics, and automation, our department has continuously pushed the limits of mechanical engineering education. Our students have access to ground breaking resources, such as wind tunnels, manufacturing plants, and research labs, which give them the theoretical understanding and practical application they need to succeed in the rapidly changing field of engineering.
The future of mechanical engineers is greatly influenced by our faculty, which is made up of eminent academics and professionals in the industry. They offer priceless advice by fusing their extensive expertise with practical experience to guarantee that students obtain an excellent education. They also mentor students through various industrial training opportunities, such as the experience gained at the Kanchrapara Car Shed, where students got a firsthand look at how classroom concepts are applied in the field.
One of the standout events organized by the department was the Seminar on New Trends in Aviation Technology, held in March 2024. This occasion signified a noteworthy association between The Aeronautical Society of India, Kolkata Branch and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Prominent attendees at the seminar were Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha (Retd.) and Air Vice Marshal A.K. Bhattacharya (Retd.), who gave enlightening talks about the most recent developments in aviation. This session was unique since it was interactive and attracted an enthusiastic crowd with live drone and helicopter demos on the college campus. Additionally, the students got the chance to take part in a PowerPoint presentation competition where experts evaluated their concepts of contemporary aviation, inspiring them to investigate the field’s progressive potential.
Another impressive achievement by the department was the 32-hour Bike Build Project. Under the direction of Samrat Roy, a group of enthusiastic third-year students built a specially made motorbike for people with low height. The construct is the first of its kind in the world and is a stage 3 tuned Hero Honda Splendour. The fact that the bike was constructed completely out of scrap metal from nearby scrapyards places even more significance to this project and showcases the team’s technical proficiency, inventiveness, and resourcefulness. At the International Trade Fair and Cars & Chai CCU, this unique motorbike project attracted a lot of attention, demonstrating the department’s dedication to practical, sustainable engineering methods and innovative solutions.
One of the most auspicious creations by the department is the Vishwakarma idol, made with mechanical components by senior students. The students methodically constructed the idol out of chains, gears, and other mechanical components in homage to Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect. The idol, which represents the fusion of engineering and artistry, was rebuilt and repainted for a lavish celebration in 2024. Future generations are still motivated by this legacy because of its profound cultural and technical significance.
In conclusion, Techno Main Salt Lake’s Department of Mechanical Engineering offers students a rich atmosphere for learning and creativity by fusing technology and tradition. Students are urged to venture beyond the bounds of traditional engineering through practical projects, seminars, and knowledgeable teacher. The department’s accomplishments demonstrate its dedication to preparing upcoming engineers for success in a rapidly evolving technical environment.
