Kolkata | September 16, 2026: Techno India University (TIU), West Bengal, through its Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of Legal Sciences, organised a workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) at the Workplace on September 16, 2026, at the Ground Floor Seminar Hall.
The workshop was organised to create greater awareness about workplace safety, dignity, prevention of sexual harassment and the mechanisms available for addressing complaints. The session was attended by corporate staff and members, providing them with an opportunity to understand the POSH framework and their respective roles in fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace.
The session featured Dr. Subhoda Banerjee, POSH Trainer and External Member of ICC, as the resource person. She explained the POSH framework in detail, covering key aspects of prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment at the workplace. She also discussed the landmark Vishaka Guidelines, which laid the foundation for workplace sexual harassment regulations in India, and explained various provisions of the POSH Act through relevant case studies.
The discussion further covered the role and responsibilities of the Internal Complaints Committee, the complaint redressal mechanism, workplace conduct and the importance of maintaining dignity, respect and professionalism. Through practical examples and case-based discussions, Dr. Banerjee helped participants understand how the POSH framework applies in workplace situations and the importance of awareness in preventing inappropriate conduct.
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the POSH Act, provides a legal framework for the prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment of women at the workplace. The framework also places emphasis on awareness and institutional mechanisms for handling complaints.
As part of the workshop, Dr. Subhoda Banerjee was felicitated by Prof. (Dr.) Saikat Maitra, Vice Chancellor, Techno India University, and Prof. Dr. Sujoy Biswas, Registrar and Director & CEO, Techno India Group, in recognition of her contribution to the session and expertise in promoting awareness around workplace safety and dignity.
The workshop served as an important platform for sensitising participants about POSH, workplace rights and responsibilities, appropriate professional conduct and complaint redressal procedures. It reinforced the importance of creating an environment where concerns can be addressed through established institutional mechanisms while upholding confidentiality, dignity and respect.
The programme concluded with an emphasis on collective responsibility in building a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace, strengthening awareness and encouraging a culture of dignity and professionalism across the organisation.
