Dumka Engineering College Hosts Interactive Industry Session with Dalmia Cement

Dumka Engineering College, a part of Techno India Group, successfully hosted an impactful Industry–Institute Interaction Session with Dalmia Cement on 03 December 2025, offering Civil Engineering students from the 3rd, 5th, and 7th semesters an enriching exposure to real-world cement manufacturing technologies, industrial practices, and sector-specific career opportunities. The session was designed exclusively for the Civil Engineering students of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year, and it witnessed dynamic participation and active engagement throughout.

The event was addressed by Mr. Ravi Kumar, Senior Technical Manager, Dalmia Cement, and Mr. Hemu Lama, Technical Service Engineer, Dalmia Cement, both of whom delivered comprehensive presentations on the modern cement production process, quality control practices, technological advancements, and sustainable construction methodologies currently revolutionizing the cement industry.

The resource persons provided a step-by-step explanation of the entire cement manufacturing cycle, beginning with the procurement of raw materials such as limestone, followed by crushing, proportioning, clinkering, and final grinding. The presentations were supplemented with infographic visuals and animated demonstrations, significantly enhancing students’ understanding of each stage of production and offering them a clear picture of real-time industrial operations.

Throughout the session, Dalmia Cement experts also discussed the vast career opportunities available for Civil Engineers in the cement sector, including roles in quality assurance and material testing, construction technology and technical services, production and process supervision, research and development in advanced cement formulations, project planning and infrastructure development, and sustainability-driven construction practices. The presenters appreciated the curiosity and active participation of the students, acknowledging their readiness to explore new technological dimensions within the construction material industry.

A major highlight of the programme was Dalmia Cement’s positive inclination toward establishing an Incubation Centre at Dumka Engineering College. This initiative, once finalized, is expected to empower students with hands-on industrial exposure, innovation-driven project development, and strengthened research capabilities—marking a transformative step toward advancing the college’s innovation ecosystem.

The programme was coordinated effectively under the supervision of Dr. Avijit Bardhan, Head of the Department, Civil Engineering, and Prof. Pankaj Sarkar, Head of Electrical Engineering and President, IIC, whose efforts ensured the success of the event. Speaking about the initiative, Principal Dr. Ganesh Shankar stated, “This session has significantly enriched our students’ industrial awareness. Collaborations with leading companies like Dalmia Cement not only strengthen the34 Industry–Institute relationship but also enhance students’ employability and practical skill development.”

Vice-Principal Dr. Ratan Kumar Bose emphasized the value of such industry-led interactions, remarking, “These engagements bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial practice. Civil Engineering students, in particular, benefit immensely from understanding the operational frameworks of the cement industry, which remains a core sector of national infrastructure.”

Institution Innovation Council President, Prof. Pankaj Sarkar, reflected on the broader impact of the event, noting, “This type of collaboration strengthens the startup and innovation ecosystem of our college while boosting the research infrastructure. The proposed Incubation Centre with Dalmia Cement will open new pathways for students to develop industry-relevant innovations.”

The session concluded with a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the Dalmia Cement delegation, faculty coordinators, and supporting staff for their contributions. With this successful interaction, Dumka Engineering College continues to build strong industry connections, empowering its students with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities required to excel in future engineering and industrial roles.
