Celebrating Two Years of Helix-Herald: A Journey of Science and Expression at TIU

On September 20, the Department of Biotechnology at Techno India University recently came together in joy and pride to celebrate the second anniversary of its official e-bulletin, Helix-Herald. What began as a small platform for expression has, in just two years, grown into a vibrant hub of scientific exploration, creativity, and community spirit.

The anniversary event was not just a celebration of a publication—it was a reflection of the department’s collective journey. Faculty, students, and invited guests gathered to acknowledge how Helix-Herald has become a voice for both budding scientists and creative minds. Over the past two years, it has carried within its pages research articles, Nobel Laureate features, inspiring personal stories, quizzes, and thought-provoking essays, alongside stunning artwork, photography, and literary pieces contributed by students and teachers alike.

One of the most exciting highlights of this special issue was its feature on a global breakthrough in agricultural biotechnology: the world’s first genome-edited rice varieties, DRR Dhan 100 (Kamala) and Pusa DST Rice 1, developed by ICAR using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. These rice varieties, free of foreign DNA, promise higher yields, resilience to drought and salinity, better nitrogen-use efficiency, and early maturity—heralding a new era of sustainable farming. Including this achievement in the bulletin resonated deeply with the department’s mission of connecting cutting-edge science with societal impact.

Adding warmth to the academic celebration was a heartfelt Teachers’ Day tribute by students. Cultural performances lit up the evening, with the final-year Biotechnology students delivering a powerful rendition of Mahisasur Mardini. Their performance not only honored the mentors who guide them daily but also set a festive tone for the upcoming Durga Puja, filling the hall with energy and reverence.

The celebration of Helix-Herald’s second anniversary was more than an event—it was a reminder of what the Department of Biotechnology stands for: a community where knowledge, creativity, and mentorship thrive together. As the bulletin enters its third year, it carries forward the promise of being a beacon of innovation and inspiration for everyone at Techno India University.
