On the proud occasion of Republic Day 2025, the Mechanical Engineering Department of Dumka Engineering College, a part of Techno India Group, unveiled a new chapter in its journey of academic and creative excellence with the launch of its magazine – “Machina: Exploring the World of Mechanical Engineering.” More than just a collection of articles, this special edition stands as a heartfelt expression of the department’s passion for innovation, knowledge sharing, and nation-building.
The magazine’s launch ceremony took place on 26th January 2025, amidst the vibrant celebration of Republic Day on the college campus. The atmosphere was charged with patriotic fervor and pride as the department came together in a shared spirit of achievement. The unveiling was graced by the presence of Principal Dr. Ganesh Shankar and Vice Principal Dr. Ratan Kumar Bose, who jointly released the magazine before an enthusiastic audience of faculty members and students. Their words of encouragement and appreciation added gravitas to an already memorable occasion, highlighting the department’s dedication to academic growth and national progress.
This year’s edition of Machina is thoughtfully themed around progress, sustainability, patriotism, and technological advancement—ideals that mirror the ethos of Republic Day and resonate deeply with the engineering spirit. Under the insightful leadership of Ms. Sruti Sen Sarma, Head of Department, and the unwavering support of Dr. Yadaba Mahanand and Mr. Vivek Kumar, the magazine has evolved into a dynamic platform where students and faculty collaborate, express, and innovate.

The magazine is not just a showcase of technical prowess—it’s a tapestry woven from diverse threads of creativity, research, and real-world application. Faculty members and students worked tirelessly over several months, balancing academic responsibilities with the desire to create something meaningful and lasting. The result is a publication that reflects the department’s identity and aspirations.
Adding a touch of distinction to this edition are messages from senior dignitaries of the Techno India Group. Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Roy Chowdhury (Founder Chairman), Prof. Mohit Chatterjee (Vice-Chairman), Prof. (Dr.) Sudipta Chakraborty (Director), and Prof. Amrik Basak (NBA & NAAC Coordinator) shared their best wishes and visionary messages, emphasizing the value of innovation, persistence, and a commitment to excellence. Their words serve not only as inspiration but also as a reminder of the greater educational mission that unites institutions across the nation.
One of the defining features of Machina is the impressive collection of student-authored technical articles. These writings delve into a variety of cutting-edge topics such as Industry 4.0, biomimicry, helical gear advancements, hydrogen propulsion systems, space exploration, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and forensic engineering. What stands out is the depth of research and clarity of thought these young engineers bring to the table. Their articles reflect not only technical understanding but also a genuine curiosity about how engineering can solve real-world problems and contribute to sustainable development.
Among the many highlights in this issue is a detailed feature on the Solenoid Engine Project, designed and developed by third-year students. Based on the principles of electromagnetism, this clean-energy innovation showcases the department’s strong focus on sustainability and practical learning. The project earned a 4th prize during the Science Day 2023 competition, and its inclusion in the magazine demonstrates how classroom learning can translate into impactful real-world solutions. It’s a proud reminder of the department’s mission to nurture not just engineers, but changemakers.
Machina also captures the spirit of experiential learning through its coverage of various departmental activities and events. Readers are treated to vivid snapshots of industrial visits, providing students firsthand exposure to the world of manufacturing and design. Equally exciting is the department’s enthusiastic participation in the Boeing National Aeromodelling Competition held at IIT Kharagpur, where students tested their aeronautical skills on a national platform.
Cultural engagement hasn’t been left behind either. The vibrant celebration of Vishwakarma Puja, a festival deeply significant to the engineering community, brought together students and faculty in a display of unity, tradition, and shared values. These moments, documented with care, highlight the department’s commitment to holistic student development, where technical learning is balanced with community, culture, and collaboration.
This year’s edition introduces a heartwarming section titled “Voice of Alumni,” reconnecting the current student body with former graduates who have gone on to achieve professional success. Alumni such as Amit Kumar (DTO, Pakur), Bunty Ku. Modi (Infosys), and Raghuvansh (Adani Cement) share inspiring messages filled with advice, gratitude, and personal reflections. Their journeys serve as both motivation and roadmap for students still shaping their paths. More importantly, these messages strengthen the emotional and professional bonds that tie the alumni to their alma mater.
The making of Machina was a collective effort powered by passion and perseverance. Dr. Yadaba Mahanand, as the Editor-in-Chief, led the publication team with dedication and vision. Faculty coordinators worked closely with student contributors, creating an environment where ideas could flow freely and every voice found space to be heard. Their behind-the-scenes work—from article selection and editing to layout and design—ensured that the final product is as polished as it is inspiring.
In many ways, this edition of Machina is more than a magazine—it’s a testament to what the Department of Mechanical Engineering stands for. It reflects a culture of continuous learning, creative thinking, and sincere patriotism. By aligning its publication with Republic Day, the department not only honors a national celebration but also reinforces the idea that education and innovation are key pillars of India’s future.
Through the combined efforts of its faculty, students, alumni, and supporters, the department continues to build a legacy that goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. Machina is both a mirror and a milestone—capturing the spirit of the present while inspiring dreams for the future.
As the pages of this special edition turn, they tell stories of hard work, aspiration, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. It is with pride and purpose that the Mechanical Engineering Department of Dumka Engineering College presents this edition of Machina—a true reflection of its heart, its hope, and its commitment to shaping the engineers and leaders of tomorrow.
