TMSL’s Eclectica INTRA ’25: Diplomacy Takes Centre Stage with Inaugural MUN

"Speak Up, Show Off, Shine On!"

Techno Main Salt Lake was buzzing with excitement as Eclectica INTRA ’25 unfolded—a multi-dimensional celebration that brought together the best of intellect, art, diplomacy, and performance. The highlight of the event was the college’s inaugural Model United Nations (MUN), a unique platform where students stepped into the shoes of diplomats to discuss pressing global issues. Organized by Team Opinionists—the official debating society and a sub-club of Eclectica—the MUN simulated the United Nations General Assembly – Disarmament and International Security Committee (UNGA DISEC). This committee addresses international peace and security, working to promote cooperation through disarmament.

Under the leadership of Secretary General Shubhodip Ghosh, Deputy Secretary General Shruti Sinha, and Director General Anisha Sadhu—all 3rd-year students and leaders of the Debating Society—the MUN attracted 60 participants representing 34 nations. Over two days of rigorous debates, students demonstrated exceptional leadership, negotiation, and public speaking skills. The experienced Executive Board (EB), from Jadavpur University and Presidency University, guided the proceedings and ensured a fair evaluation of performances. Awards were presented to participants in four categories: Best Delegate, High Commendation, Special Mention, and Honourable Mention. The event was a grand success and marked a significant milestone in Techno Main Salt Lake’s history, setting the stage for future MUN conferences at the institution.

Beyond the diplomatic discussions, Eclectica INTRA ’25 offered a wide range of events that celebrated creativity and intellect. The “Big Brain Theory” quiz, conducted by Team QZone—the official quizzing society of TMSL—on 7th February, drew a large crowd of eager participants. The quiz tested knowledge across various domains, including films, sports, literature, and current affairs, with multiple rounds held in different formats to keep the competition lively. The next day, the film-centric quiz “Everything Everywhere All at Quiz” took participants on a cinematic journey through questions related to both mainstream blockbusters and cult classics.

For drama enthusiasts, “Spotlight” was a day-long workshop held on 8th February, led by special guest Sashi Guha, an experienced theatre artist. Guha shared insights into the world of performative arts and conducted exercises to help students break out of their comfort zones and embrace acting with confidence. This workshop allowed students to explore their creative potential beyond academics, fostering a deeper appreciation for the performing arts.

On the same day, the open mic event “Five Feet Drop” provided students with a stage and four minutes of fame to present their self-composed content. From poetry and prose to shayari and stand-up comedy, the event was a vibrant showcase of creativity, with participants receiving applause and encouragement from their peers. Simultaneously, a competitive UNO card game session offered a fun break from the usual routine, with students trash-talking and laughing their way through colourful matches.

Eclectica INTRA ’25 also featured two online contests held from 7th to 8th February. “Tune Tales” was a creative content writing contest where participants drew inspiration from music to craft imaginative stories and essays. Meanwhile, “Kaleidoscope” invited students to submit hand-drawn mandala art, focusing on symmetry and aesthetics. The diverse designs and intricate patterns submitted by participants reflected their artistic talent and creativity.

Eclectica INTRA ’25 was a resounding success, blending diplomacy, creativity, and camaraderie to create a vibrant celebration of talent. From the intense debates of the MUN to the artistic showcases and intellectual challenges of various events, every participant brought their best to the table. This year’s edition has set a high standard for future Eclectica events, leaving the TMSL community excited for what lies ahead.
