Dumka Engineering College Hosts Expert Lecture on Emerging Point Cloud Technology

In a conscious effort to align academic learning with industry demands, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dumka Engineering College, a part of Techno India Group, organized an expert lecture on Point Cloud Technology on 26th March 2026 as a value-added course beyond the formal curriculum.

The session was delivered by Mr. Shubham Shastri, founder of Crafter Solutions, who provided insightful exposure to the practical applications of point cloud technology in areas such as 3D scanning, reverse engineering and digital modelling. The programme witnessed an encouraging response, with nearly 110 students registering for the event. A majority of participants attended the session online, reflecting the growing acceptance of hybrid modes of learning.

The programme commenced with an introductory address by Prof. Anirban Mitra, who emphasized the importance of acquainting students with emerging technologies that are increasingly shaping modern engineering practices. His remarks set the stage for a session that combined theoretical understanding with practical relevance.

Following the expert lecture, an interactive question-and-answer session was conducted, allowing students to engage directly with the speaker. The exchange of ideas highlighted the curiosity and enthusiasm among participants to explore new technological domains.

The event was convened by Prof. Sruti Sen Sarma, whose initiative reflects a commitment to enriching academic exposure beyond traditional classroom teaching. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Mitra, ensuring its smooth execution. Among the students, Mr. Anuj Kumar of the third year played a key role in coordination, while Mr. Uttam Kumar, also a third-year student, contributed significantly in managing the technical aspects of the session. Certificates were awarded to the attendees. The programme concluded with a brief address by the convenor, followed by a formal vote of thanks.

Such initiatives reaffirm the role of institutions like Dumka Engineering College in bridging the gap between academic instruction and industrial practice, thereby preparing students for the evolving challenges of the engineering profession.
