SPARDHA 2026: A Celebration of Sportsmanship, Inclusivity, and New Beginnings at Chaibasa Engineering College

With these inspiring words, Prof. Debabrata Raha, Principal In-charge, set the tone for the Annual Sports Day 2026—SPARDHA 2026—at Chaibasa Engineering College, a proud part of the Techno India Group. The event emerged as a vibrant celebration of athleticism, unity, and progressive change.

This year’s Sports Day witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 501 students, making it one of the most engaging editions to date. A total of 13 games were organized, comprising 9 outdoor and 4 indoor events, thoughtfully divided into 7 group and 6 individual competitions. This structure ensured equal opportunities for teamwork as well as individual excellence.

One of the most remarkable highlights of SPARDHA 2026 was the introduction of three new sports—Short Pitch Cricket, Volleyball, and Kabaddi. Among these, Short Pitch Cricket stood out not just as a game but as a progressive initiative. Each team was mandated to include at least one female player, a move that significantly boosted female participation and reinforced the spirit of gender inclusivity. This initiative has also opened doors for the potential formation of a dedicated girls’ cricket team in the future.

Another defining achievement of this year’s event was the inauguration and utilization of a newly developed mini sports ground within the campus, located near the 1st-year boys’ hostel. Since the college’s establishment in 2013, the absence of a proper sports ground had been a long-standing concern. The creation of this facility marks a historic milestone, finally providing students with a dedicated space for physical activities and athletic development.

Health and safety remained a top priority throughout the event. A pre-event medical fitness test ensured that only medically fit students participated. Additionally, a medical team was present on campus during the two days of outdoor games, ensuring prompt assistance in case of any emergencies.

Participation was organized department-wise, with students from BSH, CE, CSE, ECE, EE, and ME departments actively competing. The inclusion of first-year BSH students further fostered a sense of unity and inclusiveness across all academic levels. The event was marked by high energy, discipline, and exemplary sportsmanship from all participants.

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department emerged as the overall champion, securing the highest number of gold medals and proudly lifting the Sports Day Trophy 2026.

Prof. Debabrata Raha extended his heartfelt appreciation to the students, faculty members, and volunteers for their unwavering dedication and teamwork. He acknowledged the efforts of the student committee and volunteers for their efficient coordination, as well as the faculty committee for their leadership and guidance.

Special recognition was given to Sports Convener Mr. Abhay Kumar for his exceptional management and coordination of the event. Prof. Raha also praised Prof. Arijit Dutta, a key member of the Sports Committee, for his tireless support in ensuring the smooth execution of the program.

SPARDHA 2026 was not just a sporting event but a reflection of the institution’s evolving culture—one that values inclusivity, encourages participation, and prioritizes the holistic development of its students. With new initiatives and improved infrastructure, the event has set a promising benchmark for the years to come.
