As part of their experiential learning initiative, final-year B.Tech Biotechnology students of Techno India University visited the Coca-Cola bottling plant operated by Diamond Beverages Pvt. Ltd. at Taratala, Kolkata, on 10 January 2026, gaining valuable exposure to real-world industrial operations.
The visit provided students with a concise yet comprehensive overview of large-scale beverage manufacturing, covering the entire production process from water purification and syrup preparation to carbonation, bottling, packaging, and dispatch. Special emphasis was placed on the multi-stage water purification system, highlighting its critical role in beverage biotechnology.

The technical team at Diamond Beverages explained the highly automated and precision-controlled systems that ensure hygiene, consistency, and operational efficiency. Students gained practical insights into Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and other key food safety and quality assurance protocols, supported by real-time demonstrations of monitoring and documentation aligned with national and international standards.
Sustainability formed an important component of the learning experience. Students were introduced to the plant’s wastewater treatment processes, recycling practices, solid waste management, and environmentally responsible disposal methods. Coca-Cola’s initiatives in water stewardship, energy efficiency, and reduction of plastic footprint encouraged thoughtful academic discussions and deeper reflection on responsible industrial practices.

The session became highly interactive as students actively engaged in discussions on microbiological safety, quality control testing, regulatory compliance, production optimization, and marketing and distribution strategies across eastern India. These exchanges helped them clearly understand how biotechnology seamlessly integrates with industrial operations and brand outreach in a real-world setting.
Overall, the visit proved to be insightful, motivating, and academically enriching. By effectively bridging classroom concepts with hands-on industrial exposure, the experience inspired students and strengthened their readiness for future careers in biotechnology and allied industries.

The visit was attended by 60 final-year B.Tech Biotechnology students, accompanied by Dr. Saurav Bhattacharya (Head of the Department), Dr. Nirjhar Dasgupta (Faculty Member), and Ms. Prantika Talukder from the Training and Placement Cell, Techno India University. The Department sincerely thanks Diamond Beverages Pvt. Ltd. and the Techno India University management for their support in making this visit a success.
