In a heartfelt initiative to promote holistic well-being and education, Techno India Group Public School, Garia celebrated World Brain Day on July 22, 2025, with a special health awareness programme titled “Impact of Brain Development on Behavioural Disorders.” The event brought together educators, medical professionals, and staff in a collaborative effort to better understand the crucial link between childhood brain development and behavioural health.
This year’s theme, “Brain Health for All Ages,” served as a strong reminder that neurological well-being is a lifelong journey that begins in early childhood. The programme began with an auspicious lamp-lighting ceremony led by our honourable Principal Madam, Tania Sen, joined by distinguished guests including Dr. Soumik Dhar (MBBS, DCH), Associate Consultant Paediatrician at Peerless Hospital and B.K Roy Research Centre; Ms. Suchismita Sharma , Deputy General Manager, Brand Promotions, Peerless Hospital and Mr. Soumik Paul, Executive, Brand Promotions, Peerless Hospital.
Dr. Soumik Dhar, the keynote speaker, offered a compelling session that touched upon the delicate and vulnerable early years of life. He explained that the first 1000 days of a child’s life are pivotal, and any negligence during this period—such as emotional neglect or exposure to toxic stress—can have lasting consequences. His discussion opened up vital conversations about behavioural and neurological disorders in children such as speech delays, attention deficit disorders, sleep disturbances, and behavioural issues.

Of particular interest was his insight into early signs of autism, emphasizing the importance of timely identification and support. Dr. Dhar also introduced the concept of “virtual autism” or “screen-based autism,” drawing attention to the growing impact of excessive screen time on children’s emotional and social development.

What made the session especially meaningful was its interactive format. During the concluding Q&A segment, Principal Madam and teachers actively engaged with Dr. Dhar, asking thoughtful questions that deepened the discussion. The conversation not only raised awareness but also equipped our educators with practical knowledge to observe and address potential developmental concerns in the classroom.
“The brain is like a muscle. When it is in use we feel very good. Understanding is joyous.” – Carl Sagan
The session served as a valuable professional development opportunity, helping teachers understand the science behind early brain development and its implications on behaviour and learning. More importantly, it highlighted our collective responsibility in nurturing young minds—at home, in school, and in society.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
We are deeply grateful to our Principal Madam for organizing this enlightening event and for always championing initiatives that bridge education and wellness. As we continue to foster an environment of learning and care, this World Brain Day programme has certainly inspired us to stay more mindful of our students’ inner worlds and to support them with empathy and knowledge.
