Ramgarh Engineering College Students Make a Mark at Gujarat Robofest 4.0

Three brilliant minds from TIGRamgarh Engineering CollegeKhushboo Kumari (ECE), Ariba Kausar (CSE), and Puja Kumari (CSE)—have etched their names in the world of robotics with a ground breaking achievement! Their Autonomous Maze-Solving Robot, a marvel of innovation and engineering, secured them a ₹50,000 prize at Gujarat Robofest 4.0, held at Gujarat Science City, Ahmedabad, from October 25 to 27, 2024. Competing against some of the brightest young innovators in the country, their project stood out for its intelligence, efficiency, and real-world applications, proving that the future of robotics is already here!

The Autonomous Maze-Solving Robot is designed to navigate and solve complex mazes without any human intervention. Using advanced algorithms and modern hardware, the robot efficiently finds the best path to exit a maze. This project is an excellent demonstration of autonomous navigation technology, which has wide-ranging applications in fields like industrial automation, rescue missions, and robotics research.

The primary goal of this project was to develop a robot that can analyse its surroundings, make real-time decisions, and autonomously find the fastest route through a maze. The students meticulously worked on optimizing maze-solving algorithms, ensuring the robot completes its tasks quickly and accurately.

One of the most significant applications of this robot is in rescue operations. In disaster-stricken areas where human access is difficult or dangerous, an autonomous robot like this can help navigate through rubble, locate trapped individuals, and assist rescue teams in their mission.

Under the expert guidance of Mr. Kamal Ahmed, the students spent months researching, testing, and refining their robot. The project was developed in multiple stages, starting from ideation, proof of concept, prototyping, and testing. Their relentless dedication and innovative thinking paid off when their project stood out among numerous competing teams at Gujarat Robofest 4.0, India’s biggest robotics competition.

The students participated in the Level-II (Proof of Concept) category under “Fun Robotics & Maze Solving Robot”, where their innovation was critically evaluated by experts in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence. Their project not only met the competition’s rigorous standards but also impressed the judges with its practical applicability and efficiency.

Gujarat Robofest 4.0, organized by the Gujarat Council on Science & Technology (GUJCOST) under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, is one of the most prestigious platforms for young innovators. This year, the event witnessed advance projects from across the country, showcasing advancements in robotics, AI, and automation.

Among such fierce competition, the Ramgarh Engineering College team’s achievement is commendable. The ₹50,000 prize money is not just a reward for their hard work but also an encouragement to continue innovating.

With the success of their Autonomous Maze-Solving Robot, the students now aim to further enhance their project by:

  • Integrating AI-based learning to improve its decision-making over time.
  • Enhancing real-time navigation using LiDAR and camera sensors.
  • Expanding its use in real-world applications, especially in search-and-rescue missions.

Their achievement serves as an inspiration to budding engineers, proving that with dedication, creativity, and the right guidance, students can contribute significantly to the field of technology and innovation.

The success of Khushboo Kumari, Ariba Kausar, and Puja Kumari at Gujarat Robofest 4.0 is a testament to the potential of young minds in India’s growing tech industry. Their project showcases how robotics and AI can be leveraged to solve real-world challenges. As they continue their journey in innovation, the future looks bright for these young engineers and their ground breaking contributions to the world of autonomous robotics.
