A powerful narrative of renewal and community spirit unfolded on the runway at the Calcutta Times Fashion Week 2025, as Techno India University, in collaboration with ESEDS School of Design, unveiled “Khonoma”. This remarkable collection, a poignant tribute to the resilience of the Naga community, drew inspiration from Asia’s first Green Village, Khonoma in Nagaland, and was presented on International Women’s Day, March 8th, at The Westin, Kolkata.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail by the talented M.Des Fashion Design & Sustainability students – Disha Hazra, Debkanya Bose, Sadia Afreen, Izzah Ahmed, and Pratyasha Pal – “Khonoma” transcended mere fashion, becoming a visual poem of transformation. The collection eloquently articulated the journey from devastation to revival, capturing the profound harmony between nature and the unbreakable spirit of the Naga people.

The heart of “Khonoma” lies in its narrative: the story of a land once scarred, now flourishing through the restorative power of nature and the unwavering determination of its community. Each garment served as a chapter in this compelling tale, embodying the spirit of revival and restoration. Through thoughtfully selected textures and hues, the collection brought to life the rejuvenation of Khonoma, a testament to the enduring power of environmental and communal synergy.

The runway itself became a stage for this moving narrative. Renowned actress Trina Saha graced the show as the showstopper, her presence radiating the strength and grace that “Khonoma” embodied. Her confident stride and captivating aura amplified the collection’s message, leaving an indelible mark on the audience.

Adding to the evening’s dynamism, Meghdut Roy Chowdhury, Executive Director and Chief Innovation Officer at Techno India Group, took to the runway, proving that sustainable fashion is not only impactful but undeniably stylish. His confident walk underscored the university’s commitment to pioneering a future where fashion and sustainability seamlessly intertwine.

The collection’s impact was further heightened by the exceptional performances of the models, each embodying the essence of “Khonoma” with grace and poise. Their movements accentuated the earthy and natural elements of the garments, allowing the textures and designs to speak volumes. The audience was visibly moved, their awe palpable as they witnessed the evocative power of the collection.

For the young designers behind “Khonoma,” this was a triumph. Their ability to translate a complex narrative into a tangible and visually stunning collection marks a significant milestone in their burgeoning careers. The collection’s resounding success at Calcutta Times Fashion Week 2025 stands as a testament to their talent, dedication, and the transformative power of sustainable fashion. “Khonoma” was not just a fashion show; it was a powerful statement, a celebration of resilience, and a glimpse into the future of conscious design.
