Kolkata | August 20, 2026: The Department of Media Science at Techno Main Salt Lake (TMSL) organised a special screening of the upcoming Bengali supernatural thriller Maya Satya Bhram on August 20, 2026, at Techno Main campus. Held ahead of the film’s theatrical release on August 28, the event offered students a unique opportunity to experience cinema beyond the conventional classroom and engage directly with the creative minds behind the film.
The special screening was graced by the presence of Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group, Prof. Debanjan Banerjee, Dean & Adviser of Media Science Dept., Prof. Prithwiraj Pal, HOD, Samik Roy Choudhury, Director of Maya Satya Bhram, Soham Majumdar, lead actor, and Priyanka Sarkar, lead actress, along with faculty members and students of the Department of Media Science.

Directed by Samik Roy Choudhury, Maya Satya Bhram is a supernatural thriller set in Kolkata. The story revolves around mysterious disappearances that initially appear unrelated but gradually become connected to the enigmatic figure of Trilokadarshi Baba. Blending mystery, suspense and the supernatural, the film explores the fine line between reality, perception and the unknown.
Addressing the students, Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, said, “It is the passion which you should follow. Take what you really want from your soul to do it, give your best and see what you can do. Dream big and believe in yourself. You can show the world what India or Kolkata has instilled in you.”
The Dean then reflected on the deeper meaning behind the title Maya Satya Bhram, explaining, “The three words ‘Maya Satya Bhram’ tell the whole story of the moving picture. Maya is delusion, Satya is truth, and Bhram is illusion.” Highlighting the core themes of the film, the Dean further added, “The movie is based on four pillars: faith, fear, deception and trauma.”
Sharing his perspective on cinema and its connection with human thought and behaviour, director Samik Roy Choudhury said, “Every film that we watch, whether international or national, even drama films, is psychological because each movie has its own philosophy and way of thinking.”
Lead actor Soham Majumdar further explained the central idea of the film, saying, “There is a reality that exists there. There can be certain things which are beyond that reality, beyond our understanding of our realities. And how do we deal with those illusions that we see in daily life is what this film is about in a nutshell.”

The screening was followed by an engaging Q&A session, where students interacted with the director and cast, gaining deeper insights into the film’s themes, creative process and the different aspects of filmmaking.
For the students of Media Science, the event became an enriching learning experience, enabling them to observe different aspects of storytelling, genre exploration, visual treatment and filmmaking techniques. The presence of the creative team allowed students to connect their academic understanding of media and cinema with the practical realities of filmmaking.
The film has also earned recognition through selections and screenings at several international platforms, including the Bishkek International Film Festival, New York Indian Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Marché du Film at the Festival de Cannes, and the Third Eye Asian Film Festival.
By bringing Maya Satya Bhram and its creative team directly to the campus, the Department of Media Science at Techno Main Salt Lake created an immersive learning experience that went beyond the traditional classroom. The special screening and interactive session gave students an opportunity to explore the language of cinema, understand the perspectives behind filmmaking and engage with industry professionals.
As Maya Satya Bhram prepares for its theatrical release on August 28, the event marked a memorable cinematic experience for the students of Techno Main Salt Lake, inspiring them to look beyond the screen and explore the creativity, philosophy and passion that shape the world of cinema.
