Last week, a proud cohort of ASMi Business School, part of Techno India University, saw its BBA and MBA students convert classroom theory into real-world experience on a 4-day study tour to the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) and the iconic Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai. The trip, held from 10–13 March 2026, brought 31 bright students and 3 accompanying faculty members to the financial capital for an action-packed, experiential deep dive into India’s securities ecosystem.
This wasn’t just another field trip. Techno India University – the first university from East India to arrive for a Study Tour at the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) Mumbai campus – took the first-mover advantage to give its students practical exposure that will shape careers.
At the NISM campus, students were immersed in a series of well-structured academic and practical sessions that offered a comprehensive understanding of the securities market ecosystem. The journey began with an insightful session on Overview and Careers in Securities Markets conducted by Ms. Kalyanee Sarkale, where students were introduced to the vast landscape of opportunities within the financial sector, ranging from trading and investment banking to compliance and research roles. This was followed by an in-depth session on Regulatory Aspects in Securities Markets by Dr. Shreyas Vyas, who elaborated on the critical role of regulatory bodies, compliance frameworks, and the importance of ethical practices in maintaining market integrity.

Building on this foundation, Mr. Vijay Kanchan led an engaging session on the Introduction to Derivatives, simplifying complex financial instruments such as futures and options, and helping students understand their real-world applications in hedging and speculation. One of the most impactful experiences was the Hands-on Trading Simulation Lab, conducted by Mr. Vijay Thorat, where students actively participated in simulated trading scenarios, gaining practical exposure to market movements, decision-making under pressure, and portfolio handling.
Additionally, the sessions were enriched by continuous guidance and coordination from Ms. Geetha and other NISM officials, including specialized briefings such as NFLQ/PMD sessions, which provided further clarity on financial literacy initiatives and professional development pathways. Altogether, these sessions created a dynamic learning environment that seamlessly blended theory with real-time application, leaving students with a deeper, more confident understanding of how the securities market truly operates.
The visit to the Bombay Stock Exchange was a transformative experience for aspiring finance students, bringing textbook concepts to life. Through an exclusive workshop led by senior officials, they explored the exchange’s history, evolution, and operations. Standing at the heart of India’s financial system, students engaged with experts, asked insightful questions, and observed real-time market activity. The experience offered a rare, practical understanding of how financial decisions shape the economy, turning theoretical knowledge into tangible insight.

The Bloomberg Lab experience at NISM introduced students to advanced financial analytics using Bloomberg terminals. They learned how real-time data is analyzed for investment decisions, gaining hands-on exposure to tools used by global institutions. For many, this first interaction sparked curiosity and inspired ambitions for future careers in finance.
The intensity peaked during the live trading simulation sessions, where students stepped into the shoes of traders. In a dynamic, fast-paced environment, they executed trades, tracked market movements, managed portfolios, and evaluated risk, all in real time. The adrenaline, the strategy, and the responsibility made it more than just a learning exercise; it felt like a glimpse into their future careers. These moments didn’t just teach finance – they made students feel it, experience it, and believe in their place within it.
Experiential learning is the shortest and most powerful bridge between academic knowledge and real-world employability. For finance students, moments like stepping onto a trading floor, navigating Bloomberg terminals, and engaging in regulated-market workshops are not just educational – they are transformational. What once lived in textbooks suddenly becomes real, tangible, and within reach. For many, this journey felt like a dream come true – a rare opportunity to witness, experience, and be a part of the very ecosystem they aspire to enter. Being the first delegation from East India at NISM’s Mumbai campus is not just an achievement; it is a bold statement of intent. ASMi Business School and Techno India University are not waiting for opportunities – they are creating them, setting new benchmarks for industry-integrated learning.

Mumbai is many things: fast, historic, cosmopolitan – and endlessly inspiring. Between sessions, students soaked in Mumbai’s charm – from the skyline at Marine Drive to the energy of Dalal Street. The city’s blend of heritage and commerce provided the perfect backdrop for discovering financial markets in action.
This study tour was more than just four days – it was a moment of growth and realization for our students. Experiencing real markets, analytics, and trading up close made everything feel real and within reach. It built their confidence, sparked new ambitions, and showed them what they are truly capable of. It truly feels like just the beginning, as more students from East India step forward, ready to explore, learn, and find their place in the world of finance.
