A Trillion Mango Trees for a Greener Future: Dr. Gautam Roy Chowdhury’s Vision Takes Root at Ramgarh Engineering College

"Green Vision, Growing Mission"

Ramgarh Engineering College has become a proud participant in the visionary “One-Rupee Mango Economy” entrepreneurship program led by Dr. Gautam Roy Chowdhury, Chairman of Techno India Group and Chancellor of Techno India University. The Institute Innovation Council, Eco Club, Entrepreneurship Cell, and NSS Club of Ramgarh Engineering College reinforced their dedication to community development and environmental sustainability by launching an expansive mango tree plantation program on campus as part of this outstanding project.

The program was inaugurated by Prof. Mohit Chattopadhyay, the director of techno India Jharkhand project, who highlighted Dr. Chowdhury’s ambitious vision of planting one trillion mango plants over the next decade in diverse settings, such as rooftops, barren lands, roadsides, canals, riversides, and wetlands. He emphasized that this initiative, aimed at combating global warming, reducing the carbon footprint, and driving a new green revolution, aligns with Techno India Group’s dedication to sustainability and social impact.

Prof. Chattopadhyay shared a comprehensive overview of the plantation plan, stating, “This program not only addresses environmental challenges but also fosters education and entrepreneurship, ensuring a brighter future for all stakeholders.”

The event witnessed the active participation of the college’s faculty, including Principal Dr. Sharbani Roy, Vice Principal Dr. Nazmul Islam, Dr. Asish Narayan, Mr. Arunabha Datta, Mr. Nilesh Kumar, Mr. Rupam Pal, Mr. Pinaki Ranjan Das, Mr. Abhinaba Biswas, Mr. Ashim Kumar Mahato, Dr. Bagesh Bihari, Mr. Pallab Das, Mr. Abhishek Mukherjee, Mr. Pijush Mondal, and Mr. Sikender, alongside enthusiastic students and members of the local community.

500 mango trees, representing a variety of species chosen for their suitability to the local soil and climate, will be planted on the college campus as part of this project. In addition to boosting the campus’s green cover and air quality, this project offers students practical ecological conservation experiences and educational benefits.

Dr. Gautam Roy Chowdhury’s larger plan under the “One-Rupee Mango Economy” involves training 2 million villagers to grow 40 export-quality mango plants each, sold at a nominal cost of one rupee per plant. Supported by 1,000 mango exporters, the program ensures that the growers will sell their produce after five years. These exporters will also fund higher education for one child from each grower’s family at Techno India Universities through the ‘Earn and Learn’ scheme. This initiative, in partnership with 1,000 universities worldwide, envisions a ripple effect of empowerment by securing employment opportunities for graduates, fostering sustainable agriculture, and uplifting rural communities.

An crucial step towards realising Dr. Chowdhury’s transformative vision, the plantation dedication at Ramgarh Engineering College is a monument to the institution’s commitment to sustainability, ecological awareness, and outreach to the community.
