Techno India University, West Bengal Appoints Former MAKAUT VC Prof. (Dr.) Saikat Maitra as Vice Chancellor

Techno India University has announced the appointment of Prof. (Dr.) Saikat Maitra as its new Vice Chancellor, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey toward academic excellence and innovation.

A distinguished academician and administrator, Prof. Maitra brings with him an exceptional legacy in Indian technical education. Prior to joining Techno India University, he served as the Vice Chancellor of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), one of the largest affiliating technical universities in India. During his tenure, he supervised an extensive academic network of over 200 colleges, catering to a student base exceeding 1.5 lakh across West Bengal.

Under his leadership, MAKAUT achieved several pioneering milestones. Notably, the university introduced India’s first university-wide placement portal, seamlessly connecting nearly 200 affiliated colleges with industry opportunities. This innovation significantly strengthened campus recruitment processes at scale. Additionally, MAKAUT earned international recognition through the prestigious e-Assessment Award from the e-Assessment Association, in collaboration with the British Council, further highlighting its commitment to technological advancement in education.

Prof. Maitra’s academic and research contributions are equally remarkable. With over 160 publications in SCI-indexed journals, an h-index of 28, and more than 2,900 citations, his work has made a significant impact in the field of chemical engineering. He is also the recipient of the esteemed SS Bhatnagar Memorial Award for Chemical Engineering. A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), he has also contributed internationally as a faculty member at Universiti Teknologi Petronas.

His appointment comes at a transformative phase for Techno India University.
