Techno India University witnessed one of the most highly expected events on the national legal academic calendar, that is– ‘The National Moot Court Competition 2025’ on 7th & 8th August. This competition was organised by the School of Legal Science, TIU, a CLAT-enrolled institution & this prestigious event drew 42 teams from all over the India. And the interesting part is– 14 teams out of them had arrived from outside of the West Bengal, thus contributing to a rich bouquet of talent, ideas and competitive enthusiasm.
The theme for this year’s competition — “Social Media Censorship and Global Free Speech”— was timely and thought-provoking, encouraging participants to debate one of the most pressing legal and societal challenges of the digital era.
There was a electrifying charge in the air, which anyone can feel, as students at several of the nation’s finest law schools amassed not only to compete but also to exchange ideas, refine their skills; learn the nuts and bolts of legal practice from this competition.





Complementing the majesty of the actions were numerous leading legal personalities who acted as arbiters, advisors and counsellors during the competition. Some of the distinguished guests who were present were:
- Shri Uttam Kumar Shaw, District Judge, whose fine attention to detail and respect for logical thinking inspired the participants.
- Mr. Achintya Banjjer, Senior Advocate at the High Court, brought rich experience from the courts to the bench.
- Mr. Dipankar Bhattacharya, Inspector General of West Bengal Police, offers insight into the law from the enforcement perspective.
- Dr. Ritu Gupta of NLU Delhi, renowned for her academic publications on legal education.
- NALSAR University of Law’s Dr. Poosarla Bayola Kiran is a renowned legal educator and researcher.
These eminent judges, together with the other experienced arbitrators, not only adjudicated the rounds but also engaged with the students, providing them with constructive criticism as well as motivational words throughout the event.
The Moot Court Competition was conducted in different rounds, each focusing on determining the abilities of the participants. Competitions were extremely competitive and teams pleaded their cases, responded to counterarguments and answered challenging questions posed by judges.
One of the most impressive things happened in the event and that was the legal acumen displayed by the students. The judges were amazed at how the participants built their arguments on sound legal bases, simultaneously displaying clarity, poise and confidence in stressful moments. The cross-examination segments, in particular, were praised for acuteness of thought and mental agility.
Following a series of tough competition, the last round brought the best performers together. After 2days of rigorous competition, Yogesh Chandra Law College was declared as the Champion; securing a cash prize of ₹20,000, a trophy, and certificates. The 1st Runner-Up Team won ₹15,000 along with a trophy and certificates, while the 2nd Runner-Up Team took home ₹10,000 and accolades for their impressive performance and also praised by the judges as much as the audience. Their excellent teamwork, good legal reasoning and also effective delivery made them stand out from the crowd.
The win was not only a triumph for the team but also a source of immense pride for their institution, which had evidently invested funds in fostering confident and capable future legal professionals.
Though the theme revolved around the participants, the success of the National Moot Court Competition was greatly contributed to by the diligent efforts of planning as well as organization carried out by the School of Law at Techno India University. The faculty, volunteer students and the organizing committee put in significant time over a period of several weeks to make the event run successfully. Their planning included securing schedules of rounds, managing hospitality arrangements and coordinating with guest judges, all of which contributed significantly to making the events run smoothly.
The warm welcome offered to visiting teams and guests was crucial in projecting the university as a professional and friendly host. Moreover, the event offered a platform for students in Techno India University to get practical exposure in event management, hospitality also the coordination skills, which are crucial in professional, real world and legal careers.
The National Moot Court Competition organised at Techno India University was not only a competition but a celebration of legal education, critical thinking and healthy competition spirit. Such competitions provide a platform to the students to become a bridge of the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, making future lawyers capable of handling the intricacies of the legal profession. As the current year’s edition drew to a close, there was a general feeling of satisfaction among participants, judges, and organizers alike. The participants were enriched by a rich learning process. The audience was treated to an inspiring display of new talent. Moreover, for the Techno India University, this event was another successfully executed move towards its aim of developing the legal community of India.
