Walking with a candle in my hand,
Our eyes are full of tears, but we keep walking;
They didn’t hear our pleas, they didn’t hear our cries;
Now, they will have to bear our wrath.
What is our worth? What are we made for?
Who is to blame? What was the reason?
Is it the criminals, the society, or the government?
Is it the narrow mentality or the court’s judgment?
“What was she wearing?” “Who was she with?”
“Where was she going so late at night?”
“Was she a good girl?” “Was she a rotten one?”
“Why didn’t she even put up a fight?!”
Does it really matter who she is?
Does it give anyone the right?
To tease her, to touch her;
To restrain her or force her,
Even during the broad daylight?
Now, as we march forward,
Millions are watching us online:
Some call it brave; others call it futile;
Some even call it “A show for the night.”
No amount of punishment can suffice for this crime;
We want justice; we need it this time.
Please don’t forget her, please don’t forget them;
We want our women safer this time.
