Iconic Map of Kolkata: A Student-led Tribute to the City’s Essence

A stunning inclusive map of Kolkata has been made by students from the renowned design school Ecole Intuit Lab, Kolkata demonstrating an amazing fusion of creativity, culture, and teamwork. This project, which was carried out during their International Project Week, was supervised by Mr. Rafael Esquer of Alfalfa Studios in New York. The result of this project is a poster that is both an artistic achievement and a cultural homage, with over 500 icons carefully placed to convey the lively energy of Kolkata.

The bustling poster illustrates Kolkata’s vibrant modern lifestyle, rich heritage, and an incredible number of important sites and symbols, capturing the city’s unique blend of old and new. The map shows the kids’ artistic perspective on the city in addition to highlighting famous locations. The icons depict the various facets of Kolkata’s architectural and cultural story, ranging from old buildings to contemporary infrastructure.

The map represents an admiration for Kolkata’s history and attractiveness in addition to being an artistic endeavour. With images of historical buildings including the Victoria Memorial, the Howrah Bridge, and other places of worship, the poster enhances Kolkata’s image as a centre of scholarship and culture. The meticulous design also makes room for more recent construction and contemporary features, portraying Kolkata as a city that successfully combines a rich history with a dynamic present.

This project has an international flair because to the collaboration of Mr. Rafael Esquer, the founder of Alfalfa Studios in New York. recognised for his contributions to branding and visual storytelling, Esquer’s guidance elevated the students’ ideas by encouraging them to blend regional and worldwide design concepts. Under his direction, the design approach was established, and he also stressed the value of creativity that has cultural resonance.

The final work of art is a poster that honours Kolkata’s people, locations, and stories while also celebrating the city. This map serves as a potent reminder of how creative design can transcend geographic bounds and capture the spirit of a place thanks to its minute details, striking colours, and well-thought-out layout. Along with creating an aesthetically magnificent piece, the students, Ecole Intuit Lab, and the entire team behind this initiative have paid a lasting tribute to one of India’s most dynamic cities.
