August 22, 2024 | Kolkata — The atmosphere at Techno India was charged with emotion as thousands of students took to the streets to protest against the recent heinous crime at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. United in their outrage and driven by a collective sense of justice, the students made their voices heard, demanding swift action and systemic change.
The protest, led by pharmacy and medical students, was a powerful expression of solidarity and resolve. With around 4,000 students and employees marching together, the streets of Sector V Salt Lake were filled with a sea of determined faces, each one reflecting the shared pain and anger over the incident. The rally was a clear message to the authorities: the youth will not stand by silently in the face of injustice.
Today’s protest by the students and faculty of Techno India University and College, is a part of the series of ongoing protests by concerned citizens everywhere—this was a demand for safety, accountability, and respect for the sanctity of institutions meant to be a safe haven for the community.
The rally overall was both poignant and powerful. Groups of students carried large banners depicting the goddess Kali, symbolizing the fight against violence and the quest for justice. This visual representation of strength and resilience resonated deeply with those in attendance, serving as a reminder of the power that lies in unity and collective action.
Throughout the protest, the voices of the students merged as one in a war song demanding justice. Justice for the victims, transparency in the investigation, and stronger safety measures in public institutions. The rally not only highlighted the students’ anger but also their deep commitment to creating a safer, more just society.
“This is not just about what happened at RG Kar; it’s about the safety and dignity of every individual in our society. We are here to demand justice and to ensure that such atrocities never happen again.”
One of the Student, reflecting on the importance of the protest, said,
The protest is part of a larger movement that has been gaining momentum across the city. The citizens all around the city and widely the world at large, have taken a leading role in this fight, proving that we are not only aware of the issues facing their society but are also prepared to stand up and take action.
As the rally came to a close, the sense of unity and determination remained strong. The students have vowed to continue their efforts until justice is served and real change is achieved. Their message is clear: the fight for justice is far from over, and they will not rest until their demands are met.
In these challenging times, the students of Techno India University and Techno Mains Salt Lake have shown us all what it means to stand up for what is right. Their actions are our hope for a better, more just future.
My humble request to the government is that West Bengal should ensure the protection of women, and give fair punishment to the real culprits in this cycle of events, we want justice ⚖️
