Onyo Pujo: Emergence of the Divine

Celebration of Tradition, Sustainability, and Innovation, presented by Make Calcutta Relevant Again in collaboration with Y-East and Hulladek

Onyo Pujo is challenging our traditional notions of waste by highlighting the value in every material. In a world of limited, depleting resources, everything has value and what we consider waste should actually be seen as a resource.

The very theme of the Pandal “Emergence of the Divine: A Journey of Rebirth” reiterates this concept of circularity of life. Our aim is to not just celebrate a festival, but to ignite a movement of cultural and environmental renewal.
In collaboration with Hulladek, Y-East, and a host of celebrity patrons, we’re creating a stunning, eco-friendly pandal crafted from recycled materials. The pandal was designed by the students of Ecole Intuit Lab, and the idol was made by students of Techno India Group Public School, Techno India University and Colleges last year using fabric scraps and is being repurposed for Onyo Pujo this year further pushing the envelope for sustainability and rebirth. The plastic bottles used for the construction of the pandal will then be reused for consumption, the fabric is damaged cloth repurposed for the occasion and will then be reconditioned and donated to the underprivileged post Pujo. The flower waste produced shall be used to make organic dyes.

These are some of the ways Onyo Pujo aims to be truly “onyo” or different.

With this, we’re hoping to solidify our goal as Make Calcutta Relevant Again to revive our city’s cultural vibrancy.
